Our closest relatives in the animal kingdom, the great apes, feed mostly on green leaves, wild herbs and wild fruits. This is true for up to 50% for chimpanzees and up to 80% of gorillas. Humans are 98.8% genetically identical to little chimpanzees, the bonobos. Our metabolisms are also very similar. These animals in the wild are completely free of degenerative diseases and their intake of chlorophyll-containing leaves is very high. Imagine what it could be like if humans drastically increased the amount of greens (wild greens, cultivated greens) while at the same time leaving out toxic industrial products? In short, it would improve our health considerably.
I have to admit, in the beginning of my studies and my health journey, I thought nutrition was very easy. I thought that everyone should just eat a whole-food plant-based diet and that would be sufficient. However, soon I realized that nutrition is a very complex thing, which can be very individualistic as well. In addition, the information out there can be very overwhelming at times. So it took me many years to come to this conclusion, after I studied this field in depth.
